3rd Annual Collins Dixon Bend Your Knees 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run.

By Bob Dixon, Collins’ Dad.

Collins passed away on January 14, 2012 at the age of 12 with an Glioblastoma brain tumor (the same type of tumor that Ted Kennedy was diagnosed with).

Our lives were forever changed because of this dreaded disease!

Please view the video called Remembering Collins by 11Alive’s Matt Pearl for more on Collins.

Collins wanted to give back because so many stepped forward to support him. We started Collins’ foundation Bend Your Knees, Inc. in loving memory of Collins to raise awareness of pediatric brain cancer and raise money to be able to “Give Back” to others.

The Bend Your Knees Foundation is a Georgia 501(c) (3) non-profit corporation that is fully compliant with the IRS 501(c)(3) laws and regulations. This means all contributions are tax deductible.

Through the funds we raised over the past 2 years we have been able to help several families not only locally in Cherokee County Georgia, but throughout the Southeast. For instance, working with the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children through the Collins Dixon Memorial fund we have been able to give to children outside of our local reach. By doing so we were able to help the families of 14 children in the following states this past year: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Massachusetts, South Carolina and Tennessee.

I am sure Collins would be proud of what we are doing, but there is so much more we can do. That is why your donation is so important.

We are wrapping up our sponsorship for the 3rd Annual Bend Your Knees Run at FBC Canton on July 12th. This is our biggest event of the year! It gives us a great opportunity to raise awareness of pediatric brain tumors and raise money for families of a child with a brain tumor.

Excitement is already building for this year’s run! In addition to the Cherokee High School Football, Basketball, Track teams and cheerleaders, we have also received commitments from Sequoyah High School Football, Teasley Middle School, Cherokee Charter Academy and R.M. Moore Elementary! At this pace we expected we will easily surpass our first two year’s of participants which were 1,100 and 900 respectfully.

We would love to team up with your business! There are many opportunities to volunteer as well as participate in this year’s 5K run or 1 Mile Walk!

This is one of the biggest events in Cherokee county and provides a great opportunity for sponsorship for many local businesses. An event of this size requires sponsorship of local businesses to be successful. We would love for your business to partner with us. There are many different levels of sponsorship because we want everyone to be involved so we all can make a difference in the life of a child with a brain tumor. See our sponsorship opportunities at https://bendyourknees.org/5k-sponsorship-opportunities/

I will be happy to stop by and drop off more materials and meet with you and others to discuss this great opportunity to Give Back! through Collins’ Bend Your Knees Foundation.
